JOSEPH
STEPHENS
Biography
At an early age, multi-instrumentalist composer/songwriter Joseph Stephens began experimenting and creating music with 4 track tape machines, delay pedals, guitars, synths, radios, and anything else he could get his hands on. Attending college in North Carolina, he began writing songs and scoring student films which led to a working relationship with frequent collaborators Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Jody Hill. Stephens’ award-winning work includes scores for the HBO/Max series The Righteous Gemstones, Vice Principals, and Eastbound and Down as well as Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever (Netflix) and The Sex Lives of College Girls (HBO/Max); and Upload (Amazon) from Greg Daniels. Joseph’s work in feature films includes scores for A House on the Bayou (dir. Alex McAulay/Blumhouse), Family Squares (dir. Stephanie Laing, all-star cast with Ann Dowd, Judy Greer, and Henry Winkler), and Observe and Report (Warner Bros. starring Seth Rogen) among others. As a songwriter, Stephens' credits include the viral sensation Misbehavin’ from The Righteous Gemstones and songs for the films Halloween and Halloween Ends (Blumhouse). With a penchant for eclectic sounds and instrumentation, Joseph’s scores embrace the possibilities of modern technology along with live human performances and the love for a strong melody. He also cultivates an annual hot pepper garden during summer months.
